NOTE: Applications must be submitted at least 3 months prior to the activity, meeting or project. For applications related to conference/meeting attendance: evidence of the applicant's acceptance as a speaker or poster presenter must be sent to the BMS as soon as it is available. Approved grants will only be paid once this evidence is received. The Society The British Mycological Society is a Registered Charity (No 276503) open to all who are interested in supporting, promoting and learning about the fascinating world of fungi. The Society was founded in 1896 to promote the scientific study of fungi in all their diversity. Since then it has grown to be one of the major mycological societies in the world. Small Grants Our Small Grants fund activities that support learning, education and promotion of all types of mycology. Small Grants of up to £500 are awarded in four rounds each year. What is covered by the grant? Small Grants may be used for activities that support mycological research, education, recording, conservation, or the promotion of mycology. Examples are: Attendance at meetings to present a poster or paper, or run a session Undertaking fieldwork or research projects Buying equipment or other resources to support an activity that benefits others Hiring meeting rooms for mycology-focused events Participating in forays or workshops if contributing as a tutor or invited specialist Developing and publishing material to support fungal conservation initiatives

Eligibility

You can learn more about this opportunity by visiting the funder's website. Small Grants are available to all members of the Society. Members can apply either as individuals or on behalf of a group (for example a BMS-affiliated local fungus group). All applicants must have held BMS membership for at least 6 months immediately prior to application.Postgraduate Members: If you are a Postgraduate Member of the BMS looking for funds to support your research activities — including training placements at another laboratory, travel or attendance at national or international conferences — please apply for the Eunice Jones Postgraduate Fund (maximum value £1,500). Applicants must outline how the grant-funded activity benefits mycology, beyond the benefit to the individual applicant.Only one person will be financially supported from any one group to participate in the same event. Applicants can only be awarded one Small Grant in any 12-month period. You must be a member of this organization to apply for this award - become a member. Applicants for BMS financial Grants must have been an active BMS member for a minimum of 6 months prior to applying for any of the Grants/Bursaries/Funds offered.

Ineligibility

Retrospective awards will not be made.Awards will not be made to supplement or replace institutional funding for undergraduate or postgraduate research.
