Overview

A partnership between MCCOY and the City of Indianapolis with support from the Lilly Endowment. The council serves young people who help amplify youth voices and provide input to Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett while developing their own civic leadership skills.

Primary Functions:

  • Empower young people to become civically engaged and build civic responsibility
  • Provide an advisory group to Indianapolis Mayor and city government on youth issues

Geographic Scope: Indianapolis, Indiana

Eligibility:

  • Indianapolis residents
  • Rising Sophomores, Juniors, or Seniors in high school
  • Open to students from all walks of life with passion for positive community change
  • Not limited to high-achieving students or those in prominent leadership roles

Cohort Size: 25 members selected per year

Participation Requirements:

  • Attend mandatory Saturday morning meetings once per month during school calendar (Aug-May) for leadership development and community building
  • Participate in additional youth-led initiatives to impact the Indianapolis community

Application Process

Timeline (2024-2025 example):

  • Applications due: April 14, 2024 at 5:00 PM
  • Phone screenings (if requested): Prior to May 1
  • Interview invitations: By May 1 with 48-hour response window to claim interview spot
  • Interviews: May 9 (5:00 PM - 7:00 PM) OR May 11 (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM) at MCCOY office
  • Final notification: By May 31
  • Orientation: August (time TBA)

  • Completed application form
  • Availability for Saturday morning monthly meetings
  • Commitment to participate in youth-led initiatives
