Maryland 4-H Foundation Academic Scholarships
The Maryland 4-H Foundation awards academic scholarships to current Maryland 4-H members or alumni pursuing post-secondary education.
Overview
Geographic Scope: MarylandAverage Annual Awards: Approximately $50,000 in total scholarships awarded per year
Purpose: Support 4-H members and alumni pursuing accredited college, university, or post-secondary technical training programs
- Must be a currently enrolled Maryland 4-H member OR a Maryland 4-H Alumni in good standing who has completed at least two (2) years of membership in Maryland 4-H
- Must be planning to enroll in an accredited college, university or post-secondary technical training program for both fall and spring semesters of 2026-2027 academic year
- Each applicant may only receive one (1) scholarship per year for two (2) years before becoming ineligible to apply
- Students completing post-secondary education in December 2026 are ineligible to apply
General Eligibility Requirements
- Amelia Grace Dashiell 4-H Horse Scholarship - For Maryland 4-H Equine project members enrolled in equine studies, animal science, pre-veterinarian, biology, or zoology program; minimum 2 years of 4-H horse project; minimum 2.0 GPA
- Barbara Pue Streaker Memorial Scholarship - Current or former 4-H member pursuing post-secondary education
- Beatrice Streaker Pfefferkorn Memorial Scholarship - Current or former 4-H member pursuing post-secondary education
- Brenda Bourne Stair Memorial Scholarship - Individual with demonstrated record of leadership and citizenship abilities and activities
- Charles & Judy Iager Maryland 4-H Scholarship - 2 awarded per year; current or former 4-H member pursuing post-secondary education
- David and Debbie Ross Scholarship - Preference given to applicants pursuing: a) engineering or engineering technology degree from accredited program, or b) trades requiring industry-recognized certified skilled training (mechanical, electrical, structural, welding, mechanical sciences, engineering technology, etc.)
- Donald C. Toms Scholarship - Current or former 4-H member pursuing post-secondary education
- E. Rankin Lusby Scholarship - Current or former 4-H member pursuing post-secondary education
- Edwin D. and Susan C. Fry Memorial Scholarship - Current or former 4-H member pursuing post-secondary education
- Fine Arts & 4-H Scholarship - Individuals with demonstrated excellence in visual or performing arts (music, art/photography, fashion, drama, dance); must have carried at least one project in agricultural or veterinary science; demonstrated commitment to being good citizen and leader
- George Edward Lechlider Memorial Scholarship - Individual enrolled at 4-year college, university or 2-year approved technical program in agriculture or related fields
- Howard Warfield Clark, Sr. Scholarship - Current or former 4-H member pursuing post-secondary education
- Irene G. & Nicolas A. Porter Scholarship - Individual enrolled in horticulture/plant science related curriculum or pursuing career in horticulture/plant science related field
- J. Lee Majeskie Dairy Scholarship - Individual with career interest in dairy science; preference given to University of Maryland, College Park
- J. O'Neal & Rosa Moxley Johnston Scholarship - Individual enrolled to attend University of Maryland, College Park
- June Curran Branthover Scholarship - Current or former 4-H member pursuing post-secondary education
- Lansdale Pue Scholarship - Minimum 2 awarded per year; current or former 4-H member pursuing post-secondary education
- Maryland 4-H All Stars Blackhall Scholarship - Individual who has demonstrated excellence in community service
- Max and Bee Buckel Scholarship - Individual enrolled to attend University of Maryland; preference given to 4-H participation in Garrett, Montgomery, Prince George's, and Baltimore counties
- Mid-East Dairy Herd Improvement Association Scholarship - Minimum 2 awarded per year; must participate in 4-H dairy project and pursue direct or indirect career supporting dairy industry; preference for families who are Mid-East DHIC members
- Paul and Fran Rock Scholarship - Individual enrolled to attend University of Maryland, College Park
- Rippeon Family Scholarship - Current or former 4-H member pursuing post-secondary education
- Victor T. Olds Memorial Scholarship - Minimum 4 awarded per year; current or former 4-H member pursuing post-secondary education
- W. Lawson King Memorial Scholarship - Individual enrolled in curriculum related to agriculture
- William E. & Eileen M. Klingelhofer Memorial Scholarship - Entering freshman
Named Scholarships Available
- Scholarship payments made in full to the institution in January 2027
- Scholarship winners must complete acceptance form and provide headshot for publicity and donor thank you note

Application Process
Deadline: 11:59 PM on June 15, 2026 (online submission required)
Required Materials
All applications must be submitted online, typed, and signed by candidate. Missing required information results in application not being reviewed.Documentation Required:
1. Unofficial transcript from most recent academic institution
2. Essay (required) - Describe a passion discovered, developed, or shared through 4-H experience
- Include specific examples of 4-H involvement
- Explain how experiences have prepared you to be "Beyond Ready"
- Explain how passion has influenced academic interests and future career goals
3. Leadership, 4-H Involvement, and Citizenship charts (provided in application)
4. Letter of recommendation from someone involved in 4-H career (4-H Club Leader, 4-H Educator, influential 4-H volunteer, etc.)
5. Special criteria documentation for selected scholarships (see scholarship descriptions for requirements)
- Committee composed of Maryland 4-H Foundation Board of Directors reviews completed applications
- Committee selects qualified recipients and alternates
- All committee decisions are final
- Winners notified via email by January 1st
- Applications missing required information will NOT be reviewed
