Overview

Background The Hinton Area Foundation is a non-profit, community foundation organized to encourage philanthropic giving and to provide a common source for contributions that benefit our service area of Summers County, WV. The Foundation’s purpose is to use all its available resources to build a strong and thriving community. To accomplish this purpose, your community foundation accepts gifts which are deposited in perpetual endowment funds. The income from these endowed funds is distributed each year in support of education, health, human services, the arts, public recreation, beautification, and other charitable projects—projects which benefit the adults, youth, and children who live, work and visit Hinton and Summers County. Only the income from these funds is used to provide grants. The principal investment of the funds will stay intact to benefit the community forever. The Hinton Area Foundation is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and is led by a paid Executive Director with the primary purpose of the betterment of life for everyone living in our county. The Foundation’s goals are to strengthen our community’s vitality now and to leave a promising legacy for its future. We are grateful to everyone who has helped us to continue to realize these goals. Making A Difference Community Improvement Project Grant The Hinton Area Foundation offers Making a Difference (“MAD”) grants to support community improvement projects that help improve Summers County and engage community members. While full project funding requests from HAF will be considered, MAD grant applications requesting matching funds may receive priority. Grant activities should stimulate community engagement and support sustainable projects within the community.
