Main Street Iowa Challenge Grant

Funder: Main Street Iowa and the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA)

Geographic Scope: Eligible Main Street districts in Iowa; Main Street Waterloo can nominate one (1) project from their district

Focus Areas: Bricks and mortar projects within designated Main Street districts, specifically historic commercial building rehabilitation

Primary Goals:

  • Stimulate appropriate building rehabilitation of historic commercial buildings in Main Street districts

  • Create a positive climate for additional district investment

  • Support local revitalization efforts

  • Demonstrate "Main Street at work" in the local community

  • Provide local Main Street programs with exclusive financial incentives program

  • Create additional jobs and business growth

    • Goals Achieved Through:

  • Quality historic property rehabilitation

  • Creating unique business locations

  • Creating upper story housing opportunities

  • Context sensitive infill development

  • Strategic investment by IEDA into key local projects

  • Research and utilization of appropriate available financial resources/programs

  • Creating local job and business opportunities
