Main Grants Scheme: Rebuilding Biodiversity

The Biffa Award's Main Grants Scheme focuses on Rebuilding Biodiversity, supporting projects that enhance habitats for various plant and animal species. Eligible initiatives include habitat improvements, tree surgery, and the purchase of flora, aimed at fostering public engagement and adaptation to climate challenges. Applications can be submitted anytime, with board meetings held quarterly to review proposals, ensuring timely funding decisions for impactful community projects.

NOTE: Submissions of Expression of Interest are now on a rolling basis. The Board meet four times a year to decide which projects to fund. Your application will go to the next available meeting so there are no restrictions on when you can apply. However this does mean that it may take up to six months until you hear whether you have been successful.

Biffa Award’s Main Grants Scheme is aimed at groups that need funding to improve the quality of life in their community. We provide funding for site based capital expenditure to create or improve a community amenity
Projects under the Rebuilding Biodiversity theme support a variety of living things, including all species of plants and animals and the natural systems/habitats that support them. It is important that they are protected, and that the environment can adapt to threats such as climate change.  Work can include habitat improvement works, tree surgery, scrub removal, and the purchase of plants, seeds and trees. Unfortunately, research costs cannot be funded. Ideally projects will have a strong element of public access or inclusion such as volunteer involvement.
