Funder: The Mack Ness Fund, established within the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater MetroWest NJ

Background: The fund was established in 2005 following a unique legacy from Mack Ness, a special Jewish farmer from New Jersey. Before his death, Mr. Ness met with Stanley Stone of the MetroWest Federation in New Jersey to request assistance in leaving his fortune for the benefit of the State of Israel and rural regions, particularly the Negev.

Mission: To assist with economic and demographic development of the Negev, with particular focus on young populations.

  • Second Stage: Initiatives passing initial screening submit full Project Card including detailed information: budget, additional resources, measurement targets, proof of organization viability and continuity, etc.

  • Final Stage: Selected initiatives invited to meet with Board members (who visit Israel annually in February). Presenters must give detailed presentation in English and answer questions from board members

  • Final Decisions: Grant distribution decisions made following board meetings
  • Additional Fund: Loan Program

    In parallel with the grants program, the Mack Ness Fund operates a loan fund for small and medium businesses in partnership with the Jewish Agency and Miami Federation.
