Overview: Emergency cash assistance program for residents of Lexington, Nebraska, who were laid off due to the Tyson Foods plant closure on January 20, 2026.

Geographic Scope: Lexington, Nebraska

Eligibility Requirements:

Recently laid off by Tyson Food Company in Lexington, Nebraska as part of the official closing on January 20, 2026

Must present documentation: recent Tyson paystubs, Tyson ID, and valid government ID

Must appear in person at the Lutheran Family Services office in Lexington, NE

Currently unemployed with no other major source of income

Must complete LFS registration process

Award: $500 one-time emergency cash assistance per eligible individual

Services Supported: Emergency rent, utilities, transportation

Languages Offered: Interpretation available in Arabic, Somali, Pashto, Dari, and Spanish

How to Apply

Application Process

Registration Steps:
1. Register for an appointment online or by arriving in person (if appointments available)
2. Available appointment times: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 9 AM–4 PM
3. LFS capacity: up to 100 people per day
4. Arrive in person at Lutheran Family Services Lexington office during reserved appointment time
5. Bring: valid government ID and proof of Tyson layoff (recent Tyson paystubs and Tyson ID)
6. LFS staff will assist with registration (approximately 20 minutes)
7. Interpretation provided if needed

Check Pickup:

Checks must be picked up in person from LFS Lexington office

Only the person the check was issued for can receive it; photo ID required

For registrations completed Monday through Tuesday at noon: checks available Thursday

For registrations completed Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday: checks available Friday
