Leonard P. Egee Memorial Sailing Scholarship
Overview: Provides financial assistance to students to help cover the cost of participating in the Island Heights Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program during the summer.
Purpose
Financial assistance for participating in the Island Heights Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program- Island Heights, New Jersey
- Full-time residents of the borough of Island Heights
Geographic Scope
- Age: At least 8 years old (or entering third grade) and no older than 18 years old at start of program
- Residency: Full-time resident of the borough of Island Heights
- Membership: Not required to be a member of Island Heights Yacht Club
- Program Eligibility: Must be eligible to participate in Island Heights Yacht Club's Junior Sailing Program
Eligibility
- Total Amount: $1,000 total to be awarded in 2013
- Payment Method: All awards remitted directly to sailing program coordinator in name of winning student (not directly to students)
Award Details
- Open to individuals of any sex, race, color, and national and ethnic origin
- Awards based on eligibility and merit only
Non-Discrimination
- Board members, Advisory Board members, or their immediate family/relatives are ineligible while associated with Foundation
- Family members/relatives must wait 90+ days after board member resignation before eligibility
Conflict of Interest
Misuse of Funds
If scholarship funds are misused: 1. All funding terminated immediately 2. Immediate return of all previously paid awards required 3. Recipient barred from future Foundation awards 4. Matter referred to appropriate authorities including sailing organizations and law enforcementContact Information

How to Apply
Application Process
Deadline: June 1 (annually)
Required Application Materials
1. Application Letter including:
- Student's full name
- Date of birth
- Address
- Email address (if any)
- Telephone number
- Name and address of school attended
- Current grade in school
2. Essay (minimum 300 words):
- Explain why the student wants to learn to sail or continue sailing instruction
- Written by the student applicant
- Submit application letter and essay to the Foundation Secretary
- Deadline: No later than June 1
- All submitted materials become property of the Foundation
Submission Instructions
Selection Process
Selection Committee: 3-5 members including:
Committee Recommendation: Committee recommends scholarship award amounts to Board of Directors
Final Decision: Board approves or rejects recommendations at second quarterly meeting
Note: All decisions regarding scholarship awards are final.
