Law-Related Education Grants

Geographic Scope: Oklahoma (statewide)

The OBF provides grants to support law-related education programs that teach young people and citizens the fundamental principles and skills needed to become responsible and informed participants in the democratic system and rule of law.

Funding Focus

• High school programs: Mock trial competitions, Youth in Government programs
• Law school programs: Clinics providing legal services in specialized areas
• Youth education: Legislative education, judicial programs, citizenship training
• Public awareness: Community education on legal topics

• OBA-YLD Oklahoma High School Mock Trial Program: $46,600 (2014) - Training high school students about the legal system; national competition participation
• YMCA Statewide Youth in Government Program: $4,000 (2014) - High school students author legislation and debate it in Oklahoma House of Representatives; 7th and 8th grade Youth Model Legislative Day; ABA Judicial Program Competition scholarships
• TU Boesche Legal Clinic, Immigrants Rights Project: $6,766 (2014) - Law student clinical education providing legal services to vulnerable non-citizen residents
• OCU School of Law American Indian Will Clinic: $18,000 (2014) - Complex Indian land issues education and legal services; law student professional development
• Senior Law Resource Center, Elder Law Educational/Outreach Program: $12,000 (2014) - Law student intern program; elder financial exploitation education; incapacity planning

Application Process

1. Submission Deadline: Typically July 1 annually

2. Required Documents:
- Complete OBF Grant Application Packet (two-part)
- Program narrative describing educational mission and impact
- Financial documentation
- 501(c)(3) status documentation

3. Application Requirements:
- Describe how program advances law-related education
- Explain target audience and geographic reach
- Document number of students/participants served
- Describe outcomes and impact on participants
- Provide budget and financial information

4. Review Process:
- Grants and Awards Committee evaluates applications
- Committee conducts interviews with applicants
- Recommendations submitted to OBF Board of Trustees
- Board votes on all recommendations
