Overview

Note: Animal welfare must be the main focus. Large Research Grants UFAW is concerned with the welfare of farm, companion, laboratory, captive wild animals, and with free-living wild animals whose welfare is compromised by humans. Each year, a limited amount of money is available to support larger scientific research projects, applying for over £5,000 of funding. UFAW aims to encourage high quality research that is likely to lead to substantial improvements in animal welfare. UFAW seeks to promote both fundamental and applied research. This should be aimed at providing new insight into the subjective mental experiences of animals relevant to their welfare, understanding their needs and preferences, or be more applied research aimed at developing practical solutions to animal welfare problems. Completed application forms are accepted throughout the year. However, please ensure that any request for funding is submitted at least two months before the project start date. Applications are assessed on their merits for animal welfare, their scientific quality, and also in relation to other applications (received or already funded).
