Overview: The FNPS Landscape Awards celebrate excellence in landscape design, innovation, and sustainability across diverse projects and practitioners throughout Florida. The program recognizes outstanding projects that demonstrate creativity, environmental stewardship, and community engagement.

  • Award Categories

    1. Residential Native Landscaping

  • Requirement: 75% or more native plants

  • Subcategories:

  • - Professional Native Landscapes (designed/installed by professionals)
    - Homeowner-Created Native Landscapes (designed, installed, maintained by homeowners)
  • Fee: $60 ($54 with early bird discount through June 30, 2025)
  • 2. Commercial and Institutional Landscaping

  • Requirement: 60% or more native plants

  • Scope: Commercial, governmental, institutional, and HOA community areas (parks, parking lots)

  • Fee: $100 ($90 with early bird discount)
  • 3. Habitat Restoration and Conservation

  • Requirement: 100% native plant communities

  • Scope: Public and private lands with primary goal of ecological restoration

  • Fee: $60 ($54 with early bird discount)
  • 4. Pollinator and Wildlife Demonstration or Community Gardens

  • Requirement: 100% native plants supporting pollinators and wildlife

  • Scope: Community-driven projects (schools, community groups, garden clubs, libraries, parks)

  • Fee: $40 ($36 with early bird discount)
  • Award Levels

    Native Garden of Excellence: One outstanding project per category receives:

  • Recognition award

  • Attractive FNPS native plant sign for on-site display

  • Local and statewide media exposure

  • Feature story in FNPS magazine, website, and social media

  • 2-year complimentary FNPS individual membership
  • Native Garden of Honor: Up to ten projects across all categories receive:

  • Attractive FNPS native plant sign for display

  • Local and statewide media exposure

  • Feature story in FNPS magazine, website, and social media

  • 2-year complimentary FNPS individual membership
  • Eligibility

    Minimum Requirements:

  • 2-year minimum grow-in period before submission

  • Projects installed on or before August 2023

  • No plants from Florida Invasive Species Council Category I and II lists

  • Open to everyone, including non-FNPS members
  • Discount Options:

  • Early bird discount (10%): Available until June 30, 2025

  • FANN members: 10% discount

  • FNPS Chapter members: 25% discount

  • Schools and nonprofits: Fee waiver available (email communications@fnps.org)

  • Discounts cannot be combined

  • Required Application Materials

    1. Project Documentation:
    - Complete application form
    - Plant list with scientific names (required)
    - Before-and-after photos or progress documentation (recommended but not mandatory)
    - High-quality photos showing project success and plant establishment

    2. Project Description:
    - Category selection
    - Project location and project area definition
    - Percentage of native plant coverage
    - Description of design, sustainable practices, and innovation

    3. For Community Projects:
    - Evidence of community involvement (volunteer participation logs, educational program descriptions)

    4. Payment:
    - Application fee based on category ($40-$100)
    - Payment submitted after initial form submission

    Submission Methods

    Option 1: Online Form (for applicants with Gmail account)

  • Submit through FNPS online application form

  • All supporting materials (photos, documents) uploaded through the form

  • Payment link provided after submission
  • Option 2: Email Submission (for applicants without Gmail account)

  • Complete the provided document template

  • Email completed application and all photos/documents to info@fnps.org

  • Subject line should include "Landscape Awards Application"

  • Payment instructions will be provided
  • Project Area Definitions

    Residential Projects:

  • May submit entire property or selected portion (front yard, backyard, side yard)

  • 75% native coverage applies to submitted area, not necessarily entire property

  • May include lawn areas (encouraged to reduce turfgrass)
  • Commercial/Institutional Projects:

  • May include landscaped zones around buildings, walkways, courtyards, maintained green spaces

  • Minimum 60% native coverage required in defined project area

  • Large properties (5+ acres): Focus on defined portion (courtyard, garden, restoration zone)
  • Eligible Project Types:

  • Front, side, or backyard gardens

  • Entry gardens or courtyards

  • Common areas in residential or commercial developments

  • Public-facing institutional landscapes (schools, churches, nature centers)

  • Restoration or habitat creation zones

  • Right-of-way buffers and bioswales
  • Important Notes

    • Submittal materials cannot be returned and may be used in FNPS presentations, reports, website, social media, and publications
    • Private residence addresses will not be shared
    • Public location addresses may be shared if applicant agrees
