Summary

The Kansas National Guard Educational Assistance program provides financial support for tuition and fees to eligible Kansas National Guard members. Overview

NOTE: Must have FAFSA on file at the institution. Kansas National Guard Educational Assistance The Kansas National Guard Educational Assistance provides a percentage of tuition and fees paid; up to a maximum rate not to exceed the maximum rate that would be charged by the state educational institutions for enrollment.  The percentage is determined by the number of eligible students and available appropriations. Students may be pursuing a certificate, diploma or degree program and must be an enlisted member of a Kansas Air/Army National Guard unit. Full-time enrollment not required. Students must have a GED or high school diploma to qualify for this assistance. The member must not already have obtained a bachelor’s degree.  The National Guard Educational Assistance is only available for fall and spring semesters. This assistance program is available to students enrolled full-time or part-time at accredited independent colleges and universities located in Kansas and Kansas public postsecondary institutions: the six state universities, Washburn University, community colleges and technical colleges. Award Amount The award amount is a variable subject to a number of factors including the: funds available as designated by the Kansas Legislature;number of eligible applicants; andthe student’s federal tuition assistance.

Generally, each scholarship program requires the recipient to:Be a Kansas residentEnroll in a qualified programEnroll at a Kansas college or universityNot already awarded an undergraduate degree, unless you are applying for the Nursing or Teaching Service ScholarshipsApplicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:Be a current member of the Kansas National Guard and in good standingHave a high school diploma or GEDEnroll in a Kansas educational institution and maintain at least a 2.0 GPAMust have FAFSA on file at the institutionMust apply for Federal Tuition Assistance, if applicableMust submit transcript to National Guard unit at the end of each semesterService obligation (included in the Student Agreement): upon completion of last semester of tuition assistance, member will serve an additional 24 months in the Kansas National Guard or will be required to repay the amount of the scholarship received.Recipients of this scholarship must:complete and submit the State of Kansas Student Aid Application by the deadline for each semester,remain in good standing at the Kansas educational institution where they are enrolled, andmake satisfactory progress toward the completion of the educational program in which they are enrolled.
