Priority Deadline is June 1.The priority deadline listed for each scholarship is the date we will begin reviewing applications and awarding scholarship funds. In many cases, there may be funding available after all applications submitted by the priority deadline have been reviewed. In this case, we will continue to accept applications beyond the priority deadline and award new applicants until the funding is depleted.If you are renewing the scholarship and will be transitioning from an undergraduate to graduate program, you are required to contact KBOR regarding your graduate degree. Kansas Teacher Service Scholarship The Kansas Teacher Service Scholarship is a merit-based service obligation scholarship program that provides financial assistance to both students pursuing bachelor's degree programs and currently licensed teachers pursuing an endorsement in hard-to-fill disciplines or master's degrees in hard-to-fill disciplines or either group planning to teach in an underserved geographic area. Recipients sign agreements to teach one year for each year of scholarship support in Kansas. Recipients are eligible to receive this scholarship for up to ten semesters, which includes both undergraduate and graduate work. This is a merit-based scholarship and your cumulative college GPA factors largely into the awarding decision. The average GPA of past recipients has been 3.50. Recipients may be enrolled either full-time or part-time at a minimum of three credit hours per semester. The number of recipients awarded is dependent on state funding levels. Award Amounts Recipients may be eligible for up to $6,666 per academic year ($3,333 per semester). The funding amount is based on the number of credit hours taken per semester and is a set amount as follows: 12 + hours = $3,333 per semester9 –11 hours = $2,670 per semester6 – 8 hours = $2,000 per semester3 – 5 hours = $1,334 per semester

Generally, each scholarship program requires the recipient to:Be a Kansas residentEnroll in a qualified programEnroll at a Kansas college or universityNot already awarded an undergraduate degree, unless you are applying for the Nursing or Teaching Service ScholarshipsEligible degrees must have a focus on developing classroom teaching skills.Applicants must be a resident of the State of Kansas, attending a Kansas higher educational institution, ANDEnrolled in a program leading to licensure as a teacher in an identified hard-to-fill discipline or underserved geographic area in Kansas; ORCurrently licensed as a teacher and enrolled in a program leading to a new endorsement in one of the hard-to-fill disciplines or teach in one of the underserved geographic areas in Kansas; ORCurrently licensed teachers enrolled in a program leading to a master’s degree in an identified hard-to-fill discipline or underserved geographic areaIdentified Hard-to-fill disciplines are: Elementary Education, English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Special Education.Underserved Geographic Areas are: USD 501 Topeka; USD 500 Kansas City, KS; USD 259 Wichita, and Kansas State Board of Education Districts 5, 7, & 9Service Obligation Requirement:Kansas Teacher Service Scholarship recipients will sign an agreement/promissory note with the State of Kansas in which they will agree to:Complete the required course of instruction leading to licensure and full endorsement in a field of education as a teacher in the selected hard-to-fill teaching discipline or in an underserved geographic area in the State of Kansas (i.e., graduate from your education degree program);Obtain and maintain necessary licensure and endorsement as specified in the scholarship agreement;Engage in teaching in the hard-to-fill discipline or in an underserved geographic area in the State of Kansas within six months of licensure in a state-accredited public or private school (K-12) on a full-time basis for a period equal to the time scholarship was awarded or commence teaching on a part-time basis for a period that is equivalent to full-time, multiplied by the length of the course of instruction for which the scholarship was awarded.Fulfillment of your teaching obligation begins AFTER completion of your degree program, even if you do not receive the scholarship for the entire duration of your schooling.

Ineligibility

This scholarship is not a resource for Counseling, Administration, or Library/Media Specialist degrees.
