Kānaka Anti-Displacement Fund

Status: Revived in March 2026 following devastating Kona storms

Geographic Scope: Hawaiian Home Lands statewide, with initial focus on:

  • Anahola, Kauaʻi (cesspool failures)

  • Waimānalo, Oʻahu (roof damage)

  • Leialiʻi, Maui (severe flooding)

  • Kepaʻakea, Moloka'i (severe flooding)

    • Funding Details:

  • Initial Seed: $1 million from HCL

  • First Phase Goal: $20 million

  • Operating Capital: $3 million

  • Originally Created: To address needs of Leialiʻi community in Lahaina after August 2023 fire

    • Focus Areas:

  • Home repair and rehabilitation from storm damage

  • Technical assistance to native Hawaiian homeowners

  • Grants and loans for property restoration

  • Prevention of displacement and generational housing stability

    • Background: The fund was initially created to address needs following the August 2023 Lahaina fires.
