Overview

The June Bacon-Bercey Scholarship in Atmospheric Sciences for Women supports women students with a demonstrated interest in atmospheric sciences and intersections with meteorology. Originally offered between 1978 and 1990 and reestablished in 2021 through support from AGU’s community of donors, the family of June Bacon-Bercey, and AccuWeather, the scholarship recognizes outstanding accomplishments for a scientist at their career-stage. Recipients will collect a $1,000 scholarship, an award certificate, and equipment (such as a laptop computer) provided by AccuWeather. Winners will also have the opportunity to network with and receive mentorship under an AccuWeather employee appropriate for their field and career direction administered via AGU's mentoring platform Mentoring365.

Eligibility

The applicant must: identify as a woman identify as Black, Indigenous, or a person of color (BIPOC), or LGBTQ+, or as a person with disability as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act have intentions of pursuing a career in meteorology and atmospheric sciences be a first year-year graduate student in a program leading to an advanced degree in the atmospheric sciences and/or intersections with meteorology or; be an undergraduate student in a bachelor's program leading to a degree in the atmospheric sciences who has already been accepted into a graduate program in the field of atmospheric sciences and/or intersections with meteorology or; be a student at a 2-year institution who has already been accepted into a bachelor's degree program in the atmospheric sciences
