Joyce Bytof Memorial Cancer Survivors Scholarship Grant

The Joyce Bytof Memorial Cancer Survivors Scholarship, established by Joyce Bytof in collaboration with the American Cancer Society, supports childhood cancer survivors graduating from specific Wisconsin high schools. This scholarship aims to assist them in pursuing higher education despite the financial and academic challenges posed by their experiences. Joyce's legacy continues to inspire hope and resilience among young survivors as they strive for academic success and a brighter future.

The Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region serves the Wisconsin Fox Valley area—including Calumet, Outagamie, Shawano, Waupaca, and the Neenah-Menasha area of Winnebago County—by managing enduring charitable funds created by families, businesses, and organizations, and by awarding grants and scholarships that strengthen the region’s social, educational, economic, and cultural well-being.

Cancer survivors appreciate life more than most. Imagine if you will, being a child and a cancersurvivor. After what has been a horrific ordeal, this child is now ready to begin life again. Mosthave dreamt of college, only to understand some very humbling facts. First, their family has more than likely been financially set back by this disease. They’ve probably missed a good share of school, so their academic achievements probably won’t qualify for any kind of scholarship. And sport achievement, well that went out the window the day they heard the word “cancer.” Joyce Bytof, herself fought this awful disease, and wanted to help students who have dealt with it as well. In 2007, Joyce established a fund in collaboration with the American Cancer Society to award scholarships to a survivor of childhood cancer who was graduating from high school and wanted to continue their education at a college, university, or technical college. After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Joyce passed away on October 31, 2013. Her family wanted to carry on her legacy by establishing the Joyce Bytof Memorial Cancer Survivors Scholarship in her memory.

Eligibility

Childhood cancer patients/survivors who are graduating or have graduated from a public or private high school in one of the following school districts:Appleton School DistrictFreedom School DistrictHortonville School DistrictKaukauna School DistrictKimberly School DistrictLittle Chute School DistrictMenasha School DistrictNeenah School DistrictStudents home schooled in one of the districts listed abovePlanning to attend, or continuing their education at an accredited college, university or technical college as a full-time or part-time studentCommitment to academic and educational goalsFinancial need will be consideredStudents are encouraged to apply each year they are eligible
