Geographic Scope: United States

Eligibility:

• Students in grades 9-12
• Open to all high school students

Focus Areas:

• Stories of patriotism, courage, tragedy, and triumph
• American Revolutionary War figures and events
• Themes relevant to defending freedom and defending liberty in public institutions

Award Structure:

• Local chapter level competitions
• State competitions with winners advancing to national contest
• National Orations Contest held annually
• State winners represent their respective Societies and Districts

Program Goals:

• Perpetuate stories of American independence
• Support secondary school and SAR education objectives
• Develop public speaking and inspiration skills

Donor Recognition:

• $250 level and above: Honored at Donor Awards Breakfast
  • Receive Dr. Joseph Warren Recognition Medal
• $1,000 level: Patron Bar
• $2,500 level: Sapphire Jewel Patron Bar
• $5,000 level: Ruby Jewel Patron Bar
• $10,000 level: Diamond Jewel Patron Bar

Historical Context:

• Named after Dr. Joseph Warren, known for powerful patriot orations
• Dr. Warren delivered Boston Massacre commemorations, including one on March 6, 1775, at Old South Meeting House in a toga symbolizing democracy
• Dr. Warren died at Battle of Bunker Hill

How to Apply

2. Submit application through local SAR Chapter
3. Chapter winners advance to state competitions
4. State winners compete in national Orations Contest
