John T. Montford Scholarship Grant

The John T. Montford Scholarship, established by the Community Foundation of West Texas, honors the legacy of former State Senator John Montford. This scholarship supports first-generation students attending Texas Tech University and its Health Sciences Center, fostering educational opportunities and community growth. Each year, over 100 scholarships are awarded to deserving South Plains area students, helping to create a brighter future through educational achievement and community engagement.

Community Foundation of West Texas
The Foundation is one of more than 700 community foundations in the United States today. We serve the following counties that make up the Texas South Plains area, Bailey, Cochran, Crosby, Dickens, Floyd, Garza, Hale, Hockley, King, Lamb, Lubbock, Lynn, Motley, Terry, and Yoakum by offering people a variety of ways to touch their community through philanthropic giving.
Scholarships
The Community Foundation of West Texas is proud to award over 100 scholarships to South Plains area students each year. We work closely with the groups or individuals who have so graciously established scholarship funds to help out their community. Helping South Plains students today creates a stronger future for them tomorrow and beyond.
In honor of these Lubbock heroes, the Community Foundation of West Texas hosts an annual Hero’s Luncheon to recognize their many great accomplishments. This scholarship fund was established through contributions to the 2001 Hero’s Luncheon honoring former State Senator and Texas Tech University Chancellor John Montford.

Eligibility

Students at Texas Tech University and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (one award per school)
