Japanese Studies Fellowship Program- Research Fellowship (Long-Term) Grant

The Japanese Studies Fellowship Program supports scholars conducting research in Japan, enhancing international cultural exchange. Managed by the Japan Foundation, it offers funding for humanities and social sciences projects. Benefits include airfare, health insurance, and a monthly stipend. This long-term fellowship lasts from four to twelve months, prioritizing junior researchers and those with limited experience in Japan.

The Foundation maintains its headquarters in Tokyo and operates through a network of 26 overseas offices in 25 countries worldwide. The Japan Foundation is represented by two offices in the United States—one in New York and the other in Los Angeles.
Purpose
In order to promote Japanese Studies overseas, this program provides support to outstanding scholars in the field by providing the opportunity to conduct research in Japan.
Funding opportunity: Projects must be in the humanities, social sciences, and/or comparative research
Benefits: Includes airfare, certificate of health, insurance, settling-in and departure allowances, monthly stipend, dependent allowance and insurance, and enrollment fees (may vary depending on program)
For extended period of research projects.
More than 4 months, up to 12 months in length.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent professional experience.
Higher priority will be given to relatively junior scholars and researchers, and to those with less research experience in Japan.
