Irwin Mussen Resident Scholarship
Purpose: Provides RCD residents with funding to help them further their education.
Background: The scholarship was established in memory of Irwin Mussen, longtime affordable housing advocate and former RCD Board Member.
Geographic Scope: Resources for Community Development (RCD) housing residents in California
Award History: Historically, a total of $30,000 has been awarded annually in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $6,000.
- Current resident living in RCD housing
- High School senior and above
- Returning applicants who have NOT received two (2) prior awards
- Household must be in good rental standing, including: - Current with all rental payments - No current management-initiated legal notices or proceedings outstanding
Eligibility Requirements
- Tuition and fees
- Course-related expenses (books, supplies, equipment)
- Room and board
Eligible Scholarship Expenses
- Accredited 2-year college with degree program
- Accredited 4-year college or university with degree program
- Trade or vocational school with certificate program
- Job skills training program with certificate (computer, ESL, GED)
Eligible Educational Institutions
Not Eligible: Early childhood, primary, secondary, and postgraduate education schools
