Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grants (IASG)
Type: Federal grant for military families
Overview: Federal funds awarded to students whose parent or guardian was a member of the U.S. armed forces and died as a result of military service performed in Iraq or Afghanistan after 9/11.
- Parent or guardian must have been a member of U.S. armed forces
- Parent or guardian must have died as a result of military service in Iraq or Afghanistan after 9/11
- Student must have been under age 24 OR enrolled in college at least part-time at time of parent/guardian's death
- Cannot be receiving federal Pell Grant
Eligibility
- Award amount equals maximum Pell Grant for academic year
- Minus 7.2% federal sequestration-required reduction
