Overview
Funder: SUNY Potsdam College Foundation Inc (Lougheed Center for Applied Learning)
Program Announced: July 28, 2021
A pilot program recognizing the labor involved in creating and supervising internships. The purpose is to recognize faculty work and encourage programs to intentionally expand their use of internships as a high-impact practice.
Eligibility
- Faculty who are running internships integral to their program requirements
- Does not apply to Student Teaching supervisors (whose work is already recognized in assigned course load)
- Does not include summer internships (faculty already receive compensation for those)
Compensation Options
Faculty may choose from one of two options for each internship supervised:
Option 1: Banking Towards Course Releases
- 15 three-credit internships OR 45 credits total = 3 credits of course release
- 60 credits of internship supervision = 4 credits of course release
- Course release timing tied to departmental staffing needs
- Scheduled in consultation with Department Chair with final approval by Dean
- Eligibility calculated after each spring semester
- Implementation in following academic year
Option 2: Professional Development Funding
- $50 per credit hour of internship supervised in Foundation professional development funding
- Funds can accumulate over multiple semesters
- Available for spending immediately upon completion of semester
- Calculated and available after each semester
