Indian Land Tenure Foundation - Cultural Awareness Grant

The Indian Land Tenure Foundation (ILTF) offers a Cultural Awareness Grant aimed at revitalizing the cultural and spiritual values related to Indian land. This initiative supports American Indian nations in enhancing their ties to the land, which is vital for traditional practices and beliefs. Eligible entities include tribal governments and 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. Ineligible activities encompass advocacy efforts, land purchases, and direct funding to individuals, ensuring resources focus on community-centered cultural preservation.

Revitalizing cultural and spiritual values related to Indian land strengthens Indian nations and people. Land is a critical base for spiritual practices, beliefs, and worship, and can be a keeper of memories, a portal to the spirit world, or a place to go for guidance and strength. Land also supports cultural practices such as hunting, fishing, farming and harvesting wild foods. Maintaining strong cultural and spiritual ties to the land is necessary for preserving traditional practices and Native religious beliefs for future generations. In this way, the Foundation supports activities aimed at enhancing and maintaining cultural ties to the land.

Ineligibility

Activities that are not eligible for funding include, but are not limited to, the following:Advocacy and lobbying efforts to influence legislationEndowmentsLand purchasesBenefits, fundraisers, walk-a-thons, telethons, galas, etc.Scholarships, tuition assistance or other direct funding to individualsSpecial events, except when the event is a key strategy in a continuum of efforts to achieve community goals in the Foundation’s program areas
