Overview

IFSA Minority Serving Institution Grant

Status: Ongoing, available beginning Fall 2021

Geographic Scope: United States and Canada (students must attend home institutions in U.S. or Canada)

Focus Areas: Accessibility and diversity in study abroad for underrepresented student populations

Award: Automatic $2,000 award applicable toward any in-person IFSA semester or year-long program

    Eligibility

  • Must be a student attending a Minority Serving Institution (MSI), including:
  • - Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) - Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) - Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs) - Asian American and Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AAPISIs) - Other U.S. State Department-recognized MSIs
  • Must be undergraduate student in good academic and disciplinary standing at two-year or four-year college
  • Must have completed at least one semester of college
  • IFSA also accepts recent graduates or students seeking graduate degrees (only undergraduate credit can be earned)
  • Must meet host institution requirements (GPA minimums, language requirements, etc.)
  • Eligible to receive grant for each semester or academic year IFSA program attended

    How It Works

  • Grant automatically applied to eligible students' IFSA account when they begin IFSA application
  • No additional application process required
  • Cannot be combined with IFSA State School Grant, but can be awarded with other IFSA scholarships
  • Applied as credit to IFSA account

1. Start IFSA Application: Begin an IFSA application for the semester or year program of your choice
2. Automatic Award: The $2,000 grant will automatically be applied to your IFSA account when you begin your application
3. No Additional Steps: There is no additional application process for the grant itself
4. Program Selection: Select any in-person IFSA semester or year-long program
