Humanities Centers Initiative (HCI) Grants

Overview: Annual grants supporting humanities graduate students pursuing projects with public impact and community engagement.

Geographic Scope: New York State

Eligible Applicants: Humanities graduate students based in New York, in partnership with nine state universities (including Cornell University, University at Buffalo, New York University, Columbia University, Syracuse University, Stony Brook University, Binghamton University, CUNY Graduate Center, and others)

Award Amount: Approximately $4,000 per student (2024: 15 students awarded $60,000 total)

Program Focus: Projects that engage with public humanities themes and community-based inquiry

2024 Award Examples: Projects included ecopoetics workshops, intergenerational research and dialogue, climate justice, food sovereignty, music literacy, and documentary podcasts.

Recurrence: Annual
