HSA Research Grants

The Herb Society of America offers annual HSA Research Grants aimed at advancing knowledge and usage of herbs. This program supports small, self-contained research projects that explore the horticultural, medicinal, and historical significance of herbs. By addressing various applications, including flavoring and cosmetics, this initiative plays a crucial role in ensuring the continuity and growth of herbal knowledge globally.

The purpose of the Research Grant Program is to further the knowledge and use of herbs. This grant supports the research of the horticultural, scientific, and/or medicinal use of herbs throughout history. Research must define an herb as historically useful for flavoring, medicine, economic, industrial, or cosmetic purposes and have the potential to significantly increase the knowledge of the field.
The total amount for this grant is $10,000. The grant is intended to support small, self-contained research projects over a short period of time. Grant applications open January 1 of each year
