About Us The Wellspring Foundation of Southwest Virginia began operations as a private foundation on July 1, 2022. The Wellspring Foundation is a philanthropic organization dedicated to enhancing the health and wellbeing for the Virginia residents of Washington, Grayson, Russell and Smyth counties through purposeful partnerships. In the midst of the region’s abundant natural resources and growth opportunities, we recognize many challenges facing our communities are rooted in poverty, poor physical and mental health, addiction, lack of universal access to essential healthcare, population decline and economic challenges. We realize that no one can tackle these issues alone, and that’s why we’re here to help. Our operating model emphasizes convening people and facilitating discussions to address regional issues. We are grateful to partner with organizations throughout our four-county service area by providing much needed resources that will enable them to enhance the health and wellbeing of residents in their respective communities. We look forward to supporting collaborative efforts that will have a lasting, transformative impact on our region. HOPE Grant The HOPE grant is designed for organizations requesting one-time funding up to $50,000 for a project. The HOPE grant has two cycles per year – June and December. The Wellspring Foundation may partially or fully fund grant requests.Eligibility

The Wellspring Foundation of Southwest Virginia will only award grants to those agencies or organizations identified by the Internal Revenue Service as not-for-profit organizations or governmental entities. Disclaimer: Verbal or written letters of request or other inquiries cannot be considered as, or substituted for, a formal grant application.Divisions Within Organizations, Institutions or Government EntitiesIn general, organizations are ineligible for funding from the Foundation to support routine financial responsibilities, such as capital and operating budgets (e.g., payroll expenses, ongoing routine maintenance, etc.).Proposals for individual schools must be approved by and submitted through the school district’s central administration office.Proposals for individual departments of county or town government must be approved by and submitted through the county or town government office.Ineligible Projects/ProgramsTo comply with federal guidelines and legal requirements, the Foundation will not issue grants of any kind to or for:Projects unrelated to the Foundation’s vision and missionPurposes that are identified as agency ongoing operational expenses not related to the requested projectFundraisers or other ticketed special eventsCorporate sponsorshipsAmateur athletic organizationsFor-profit organizationsIndividualsReligious organizations for religious purposesPolitical purposes or for lobbying activitiesOrganizational debt reductionEndowmentsThe Wellspring Foundation of Southwest Virginia does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, gender, sexual orientation or disability and will not support organizations that discriminate in any manner.Decisions regarding grant disbursements are made at the sole discretion of the Wellspring Foundation of Southwest Virginia to further its mission.
