Overview

A 15-week paid internship that builds a network of Oakland young leaders fighting for social justice. Interns learn social justice and job training through community organizing to defund the police and create alternatives to incarceration.

• Geographic Scope: Oakland, California
• Age Range: 14-18 years old
• Duration: 15 weeks
• Commitment: 4-6 hours per week (meets twice a week)
• Payment: Paid internship
• Support Provided: Transportation, leadership development, one-on-one mentorship

Cohort Schedule

• First Cohort: Starts in January (application opens in December)
• Second Cohort: Starts in June (application opens in May)
• Two cohorts per year

Eligibility

• Ages 14-18
• Directly or indirectly impacted by incarceration, immigration, or foster care systems
• Family members of those impacted by these systems

• All activities are socially distanced and COVID-safe

Program Focus

• Building power with peers impacted by foster care, immigration, and criminal injustice systems
• Creating change through community organizing skills and tools to decolonize
• Supporting personal goals through experienced mentors
