Highlands Spirit Award

Purpose: Recognizes a person who goes the extra mile to help others and showcases Highlands in the best possible light.

Eligibility:

• Not necessarily an alumnus
• Must exemplify the Cowboy Code
• Must demonstrate spirit of community service and representation of Highlands

Geographic Scope: New Mexico Highlands University community

The Cowboy Code:

• Saddle your own horse – taken full advantage of Highlands and determined own path
• Ride a ways with others – helped others follow in their path
• Do what's right, even if no one is looking – shown integrity
• Ride for the brand – demonstrated loyalty to Highlands
• Lie, but only to your own mind – believed in themselves despite adversity
• Learn from your elders – honored their mentors
• Lend a hand where it's needed – spirit of volunteerism
• To think right, straighten your boots – shown responsibility
• Be polite – thanks and recognizes helpers
• Choose your pards carefully – surrounds themselves with like-minded individuals
• Find a passion – strives continually for improvement

Nomination Process

1. Submit nomination form online
2. Provide your name and email address
3. Provide nominee's name, phone number, and email address
4. Write explanation of why nominee exemplifies the Cowboy Code
5. Submit by February 1 for consideration in that award cycle
