Forever Cowboy Student Award

Purpose: Recognizes a current student who embodies leadership qualities, high ethical standards, a spirit of volunteerism, and is involved across many campus activities.

Eligibility:

  • Must be a current student in good standing

  • Must embody leadership qualities

  • Must demonstrate high ethical standards

  • Must show spirit of volunteerism

  • Must be involved across many campus activities

  • Must exemplify the Cowboy Code

    • Geographic Scope: New Mexico Highlands University students

    Status: Active (nominations received by February 1 considered for that award cycle)

    The Cowboy Code:

  • Saddle your own horse – taken full advantage of Highlands and determined own path

  • Ride a ways with others – helped others follow in their path

  • Do what's right, even if no one is looking – shown integrity

  • Ride for the brand – demonstrated loyalty to Highlands

  • Lie, but only to your own mind – believed in themselves despite adversity

  • Learn from your elders – honored their mentors

  • Lend a hand where it's needed – spirit of volunteerism

  • To think right, straighten your boots – shown responsibility

  • Be polite – thanks and recognizes helpers

  • Choose your pards carefully – surrounds themselves with like-minded individuals

  • Find a passion – strives continually for improvement
