Overview

Purpose: Recognizes young alumni who exemplify the Cowboy Code and demonstrate exceptional achievement.

Eligibility:

Must have graduated fewer than 15 years ago

Must exemplify many of the traits described in the Cowboy Code

Geographic Scope: New Mexico Highlands University alumni

Status: Active (nominations received by February 1 considered for that award cycle)

The Cowboy Code:

Saddle your own horse – taken full advantage of Highlands and determined own path

Ride a ways with others – helped others follow in their path

Do what's right, even if no one is looking – shown integrity

Ride for the brand – demonstrated loyalty to Highlands

Lie, but only to your own mind – believed in themselves despite adversity

Learn from your elders – honored their mentors

Lend a hand where it's needed – spirit of volunteerism

To think right, straighten your boots – shown responsibility

Be polite – thanks and recognizes helpers

Choose your pards carefully – surrounds themselves with like-minded individuals

Find a passion – strives continually for improvement
