The Community Foundation for a Greater Richmond The Community Foundation of Richmond is a philanthropic organization dedicated to improving quality of life across the Richmond region by connecting people, ideas, and resources for lasting community impact. Hayes E. Willis Memorial Scholarship The Hayes E. Willis Memorial Scholarship Program was established in 1999 by the family Hayes E. Willis, M.D. to honor his work as a teacher and physician and to assist qualifying African American students interested in pursuing careers in science, medicine and/or health care professions. Graduating seniors from public high schools in Portsmouth and the City of Richmond are eligible to apply. Funds awarded will help to cover the costs of tuition, room, board, books and laboratory fees.

Eligibility

Eligible student must be a senior attending a state-accredited public high school in Portsmouth or the City of Richmond.Eligible student must demonstrate outstanding academic work with a grade point average of B or above, financial need, and strong participation in school activities and community service.Eligible student must be a candidate for high school graduation at the end of the current academic year, and plan to enroll in an accredited 4-year college or university the following academic year.Eligible student must demonstrate intent to pursue post-secondary study in the field of science, medicine or health care profession.
