Overview
Harry Dunn Art Scholarship
Geographic Scope: Chester County, Pennsylvania
Purpose: Annual scholarship awarded to Chester County students pursuing education in the arts. Established in honor of Harry Dunn (1929-1998), an accomplished artist and illustrator who studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Philadelphia College of Art, and the Art Students League of New York. Harry's illustration of the NBC peacock (1956) is widely recognized. He mentored many artists throughout Chester County.
Legacy: Overseen by Sandra Riper of Sunset Hill Jewelers & Fine Arts Gallery in West Chester, who was Harry's friend and mentee. The scholarship also inspired the Sunset Hill Fine Arts Gallery and The West Chester Gallery Walk.
Award Criteria: Scholarship awarded to Chester County students demonstrating excellence in art pursuing higher education in the arts.
Example Award: 2019 recipient Mia Schaller of Downingtown, studying illustration with a minor in animation at John Paul the Great Catholic University in California.
