Hannah Stailey Memorial Scholarship Fund

An Indiana 529 scholarship fund established to help further the educational goals of students in Harlan and surrounding communities. Funds support those pursuing college degrees or trade schools.

Award Details

• Award Amount: $1,000 per scholarship (board may increase on case-by-case basis)
• Award Type: One-time, nonrenewable grant
• Number of Awards: Two individuals selected per year
• Payment Method: Direct payment to educational institution
• Second Applications: Individuals may apply for a second scholarship, but first-time applicants receive priority at board discretion

Geographic Scope

• Residents of the greater Harlan area (boundary determined case-by-case by HCYC Board)

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

• Be a resident of the greater Harlan area
• Be a member and/or active attendee of a church (denomination not specified, subject to board discretion)
• Be actively involved in the greater Harlan area Christian Community (leadership, participation in evangelistic/outreach activities, volunteer service in church or Christian organization)
• Be a committed and motivated student with good academic record and reputation (no specific GPA requirement)
• Be seeking to further education in a field that does not contradict God's word, dishonor Him, or contradict Christian faith/HCYC mission and values
• Complete application including personal profile and resume
• Be willing to meet with board of directors if requested

Funding Restrictions

• Field of study must not contradict or mock God's word, dishonor Him, or contradict the mission and values of the Christian faith or HCYC
• HCYC Board may request disclosure of major, minor, and courses for review (strictly to assess alignment with funding priorities, not to criticize or pressure changes)

Application Timeline

• Deadline: March 15 annually
• Application Period: Beginning of EACS school year

Application Process

1. Review the qualification criteria on the scholarship page
2. Click the link on the Scholarship Fund page to be transferred to the application portal
3. Complete the application form including:
   • Personal profile
   • Resume
   • May include disclosure of major, minor, and/or courses being enrolled in (for board review)
4. Submit application by March 15 (annual deadline)
5. Be prepared to meet with board of directors if requested to discuss goals and needs
