Overview

Habitat and Forest Restoration and Management Fund

Purpose: Supports habitat management and restoration in the Martis Valley region with focus on forest and habitat land restoration and management for optimal conservation values.

Geographic Scope: Eastern Placer County or elsewhere in the region

Focus Areas:

Forest and habitat land restoration

Land management for optimal conservation values

Ground-level projects such as meadow restoration, erosion control, tree planting

Programs supporting restoration work (developing plans, conservation value assessments, institutional capacity development)

Leveraging or developing institutional capacity and other funding sources

Eligibility:

Applicant must be a 501(c)(3) organization

Project/program must be located in eastern Placer County or elsewhere in the region

Must restore conservation values of forest and habitat lands OR result in land management for optimal conservation values

Must leverage or develop existing institutional capacity and other funding sources

Must work with appropriate partners (e.g., Truckee River Watershed Council, Truckee Donner Land Trust)

What They Don't Fund:

Projects that duplicate efforts of other organizations (except for partnerships/matching)

Projects involving direct political or religious activities

Debt reduction or loans

Activities already funded or for which other funding is currently being sought

Completed activities (except existing or proposed matching funds)

Board meets quarterly: March, June, September, November

Application Process

3. Submit Letter of Inquiry (LOI) with the following information:
- Organization details (name, 501(c)(3) status, contact information)
- Project name and location
- Project start and end dates
- Project summary (150 words max)
- Total project cost
- Proposed cost allocation:
- Applicant funds (in-kind and cash)
- Martis Fund request
- Committed funders
- Projected funders (with descriptions of sources)
- Proposed grant payment terms (lump sum, progress payments, matching, or other)

4. Submission: Complete the LOI form at https://martisfund.org/letter-of-inquiry/

5. Timeline:
