Overview

GROW Micro-Grant Program

Purpose: The Micro-Grant program aims to advance GROW's mission of building healthy and diverse communities by educating, encouraging, and enabling people to grow organic produce for themselves and others in King County, Washington and the surrounding areas. The program also gives applicants grant-writing experience for acquiring larger grants.

Geographic Scope: Seattle P-Patch network and other King County community gardens

Funding Amount: $1,000 per project per garden (rolling allocation until annual budget is depleted)

Key Information:

  • 2025 funding available with grants up to $1,000 per project

  • In 2024, nearly $17,000 was allocated over 19 gardens

  • Increased from $500 to $1,000 per garden allocation
    • Eligibility

    • Open to all gardens within the Seattle P-Patch network and other King County community gardens
    • Maximum $1,000 per project per garden
    • Multiple projects below $1,000 threshold should be combined into one application
    • Multiple projects exceeding $1,000 combined must demonstrate additional funding sources
    • Funding is limited
    • Garden must have discussed and agreed to the project
    • Project must be completed within one year (by August 31, 2026)
    • Must be within King County, Washington or surrounding area

      Priority Funding Areas

      Priority given to applicants who demonstrate how their project will:
    • Support garden infrastructure, maintenance, safety and/or repairs
    • Increase equity, inclusion, and/or access within the garden
    • Be successfully completed within one year (by August 31, 2026)
    • Be within the King County, Washington or surrounding area

      Examples of Past Projects

    • Shed roof repairs
    • Season-extending improvements for giving gardens
    • Tool refreshes

    Equity Commitment

    GROW is committed to supporting all community gardens within the P-Patch program, particularly those whose gardens would benefit most from these grants. GROW will work directly with applicants to support those facing socioeconomic or language barriers.

      Post-Award Requirements

    • Must provide documentation of project completion to GROW to be eligible for micro grant in the following calendar year
    • Site visits planned for 2025 - applicants must provide date and contact for site visit if selected
    • Documentation required for reimbursement unless otherwise arranged in advance with GROW
    • One month to complete acceptance form after award notification

    How to Apply

    1. Submit Application: Submit your application through the GROW application portal
    2. Review Timeline: GROW will begin reviewing applications on May 15, 2025
    3. Application Deadline: Applications must be submitted no later than July 31, 2025
    4. Award Timeline: Grants will be awarded no later than July 31, 2025; rolling awards may be provided earlier
    5. Acceptance: Once awarded, you will have one month to complete the acceptance form

    Application Requirements

    • Demonstrate how project will support garden infrastructure, maintenance, safety and/or repairs
    • Demonstrate how project will increase equity, inclusion, and/or access within the garden
    • Show project can be successfully completed within one year (by August 31, 2026)
    • Confirm project is within King County, Washington or surrounding area
    • Attest that your garden has discussed and agreed to the project
    • If project exceeds $1,000, demonstrate that additional funding has been or can be acquired
    • Provide date and contact for site visit if garden is selected as grant recipient
    • Budget documentation and project details

    • GROW staff available to assist with application completion
