GreenTRIP Certification Program

Overview: GreenTRIP Certification is a third-party evaluation and support program for residential and mixed-use development projects that apply strategies to reduce vehicle trips, excessive parking, and greenhouse gas emissions while making transportation more affordable.

Geographic Scope: Nine-county San Francisco Bay Area: San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Alameda, Contra Costa, Napa, Solano, Sonoma, and Marin Counties. Projects must be within urban growth boundaries.

Focus Areas:

  • Reduce driving and vehicle miles traveled (VMT)

  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions from residential development

  • Right-sized parking strategies

  • Traffic reduction strategies (free transit passes, car-sharing access, unbundled parking from rent)

  • Climate-resilient residential and mixed-use development
  • Eligibility Requirements:

  • Multi-family housing with some mixed-use allowed

  • Project density: at least 20 units/acre

  • Resident bike parking: at least one space per unit

  • Guest bike parking for 20% of units

  • Annual transportation and parking survey administered

  • Within urban growth boundaries

  • Within the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area
