Grant Program

Organization: Fish Florida (Florida Foundation for Responsible Fishing)

Mission: Promote public awareness and encourage the protection of marine fisheries and coastal habitats through conservation education.

Program Summary

Fish Florida's grant program assists organizations in providing educational opportunities to the anglers and future anglers of Florida. Funding supports organizations that teach children and adults about Florida's fish, aquatic habitats and resource stewardship, including ethical fishing skills and ways to protect Florida's aquatic environments.

    Eligible Uses

    Grants have been awarded for:
  • Fishing summer camps
  • Field trips
  • Educational supplies (books, fishing equipment)
  • Fish habitat restoration programs
  • Educational opportunities for children and adults

Florida-based projects only

    Application Deadlines

  • May 1 - to be voted on at July Board meeting
  • November 1 - to be voted on at January Board meeting

    Evaluation Criteria

    Fish Florida carefully considers:
  • Proposals appropriate to Fish Florida's mission
  • Clarity of goals and objectives
  • Clarity of plan for achieving objectives and evaluating results
  • Reasonable and effective budget
  • Participation of children and/or underserved user groups
  • Number of people benefiting from the project
  • Requests for specific purposes (preferred over operating expenses)
  • Organization's fiscal responsibility and management qualifications
  • Potential for successful collaborative efforts
  • Matching funds, monetary, or in-kind commitments
  • Ability to continue the program after grant term
  • Proposals that can serve as models for future efforts
  • Public outreach/publicity plan

    Important Requirements

  • Incomplete applications will not be considered
  • Grant funding awarded after receiving completed Grant Agreement and Unlimited Indemnity Agreement
  • Unlimited Indemnity Agreement must be signed as-is; no changes permitted
  • Grantees must complete Post Event Report and provide Event Participant Surveys
  • Fish Florida must be added to event's marketing plan
  • Board reviews and votes semi-annually on applications

How to Apply

Grant Application Process

#### Required Materials
All of the following are required. If something does not apply to your organization, explain why in your cover letter:

1. Fish Florida Grant Application Form (typed only)
2. Cover Letter - summarizing your program and request (2 pages maximum)
3. Three (3) Letters of Recommendation - exactly three letters required
4. Board of Directors or Senior Management List - complete list of organization leadership
5. Tax Exemption Documentation:
- Copy of organization's 501(c)(3) tax exemption letter (if applicable)
- Department of State Annual Report
6. Detailed Answers to application questions
7. Additional Documentation (optional) - maximum of 5 additional pages permitted

#### Formatting Requirements

  • All documents must be on 8.5" x 11" paper

  • Three-hole punched

  • Do not use folders, binders, or covers

  • Mail 16 copies to Fish Florida

  • NO staples - three hole punched only

  • Application must be typed

  • Recommendation: Submit early to allow time for corrections or provide missing information if necessary.

  • Sign Grant Agreement and Unlimited Indemnity Agreement

  • Complete Post Event Report

  • Provide Event Participant Surveys

  • Add Fish Florida to event marketing plan

  • Include Fish Florida logos on promotional materials, press releases, and brochures
