Mission The mission of the Gheens Foundation is to improve the quality of life for the residents of metropolitan Louisville and Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes in Louisiana -- and to meet present and emerging needs of those communities through grant-making and philanthropic leadership. Giving Guidelines Education and human/social services requests will receive emphasis. Eligibility

Public school districts and governmental entities should contact the Foundation office to obtain access to the portal.To be eligible to apply for an initial grant, the applicant’s gross unrestricted revenues per its Form 990 must have exceeded $50,000 (a) for its most recent fiscal year, or (b) an average of $50,000 for its past 3 consecutive fiscal years

Ineligibility

The Foundation does not make grants to the following:EndowmentsFoundations, except those that solely support a single qualifying organization, such as a university.“Churches” (congregations, conventions, associations)Hospitals, primary care facilities or medical researchNursing homes, convalescent homes, senior living and retirement communities, long-term care facilities and other such geriatric organizationsPrivate kindergartens, nursery schools, preschools, early admissions schools or high schoolsPrivate elementary or middle schools, except those whose sole mission is to (a) students with learning differences or (b) schools with 100% of the student body qualifying for free/reduced lunch.Student financial aid, including scholarships, grants, loans or work study fundsIndividualsPolitical entitiesFund-raising entities / Sponsorships
