Frank Roberts - Graduating Senior Scholarship

Purpose: Promote educational opportunities for the Head Start community

Geographic Scope: Oregon

Eligibility:

  • Must be a current Head Start parent or employee for at least one (1) program year (current year can be included)

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Applicants must meet specific criteria listed on scholarship application page
  • Application Requirements:

  • Complete application with responses to category questions

  • 3 letters of reference required:

  • - One Supervisor/Teacher (or Teacher/Counselor/Administrator for graduating seniors)
    - One Personal reference
    - One Community Member
  • Application must be typed and limited to one page per category

  • All applications must be submitted in English

  • Photos will result in disqualification

  • Applications must be complete and well-organized
  • Submission Method:

  • Local programs must attach a "State Confirmation Form" to complete packet

  • Hand deliver to Registration Table at Spring Conference by 2 pm on Wednesday, OR

  • Mail to OHSA office (must be received by stated deadline)
  • Important Notes:

  • Each applicant may enter multiple categories but can only be awarded one OHSA scholarship annually

  • All applications are final at time of receipt

  • Local programs must support applicants through editing, proofreading, and technical review before submission

  • Points awarded for clear statement of goals/aspirations for career, education, and future

  • Attendance experience and/or plans for higher education must be clearly addressed

    How to Apply

    Application Process

    1. Obtain Materials
    - Download scholarship application materials from www.ohsa.net after OHSA state meeting in November
    - Materials also available at www.nhsa.org for national scholarship guidance

    2. Complete Application
    - Type responses (not handwritten)
    - Limit to one page per category
    - Include clear statement of goals/aspirations for career, education, and future
    - Clearly address attendance experience and/or plans for attending higher education
    - Optionally describe how scholarship funds will help achieve goals

    3. Gather References
    - Request more than enough reference letters, select best three
    - Letters must include author's title if applicable
    - Mark category in right-hand corner: Supervisor/Teacher, Personal, or Community Member
    - Do not submit more than three letters

    4. Prepare for Submission
    - Double-check all statements against specific category guidelines
    - Hold materials together with sturdy clip or place in clear plastic report folder
    - Ensure application is complete before submission

    5. Submit to Local Program
    - Determine local program's timeline and submit early
    - Local program will proofread and review for technical errors

    6. Local Program Submits to OHSA
    - Local program attaches "State Confirmation Form" to complete packet
    - Hand deliver to Registration Table at Spring Conference by 2 pm Wednesday, OR
    - Mail to OHSA office (must be received by application deadline)
    - Local program retains copy of application materials
