Bootstrap Award Scholarship

The Bootstrap Award is a Crook County Foundation scholarship that matches a working student's wages. The student sends copies of their paystubs to the foundation's office, and each quarter the foundation sends a cheque matching their wages up to $1,875 — up to $7,500 in the first year. A student who stays in school and employed can continue the scholarship for a second year.

It is open to any student from a current high school senior up to age 24 who graduated while living in Crook County, Oregon. The award looks for someone who wants to work to build a better life for themselves, who is polite, who has stayed out of trouble and who has a cheerful attitude. The type of schooling does not matter — trade school, community college or university all qualify — and the kind of job the student holds during their schooling is irrelevant as long as they are earning wages.

Apply through the Crook County Foundation's scholarship page, which carries the criteria and the application links for each of its awards. Once selected, submit copies of your paystubs to the foundation's office; the foundation issues a matching cheque quarterly. Staying enrolled and employed makes you eligible to continue the award into a second year.
