Franco Family Institute: Publication Indexing Grant

The Franco Family Institute provides Publication Indexing Grants to support faculty in defraying indexing costs for their scholarly monographs. With awards up to $1,500, these grants are intended for the first edition of books and require acknowledgment of support in the published work. Faculty must apply individually, and grants are awarded competitively based on the quality of the press and the scholarly contribution. Priority is given to assistant and associate professors.

The Franco Institute offers several grant programs that support faculty research and creative work.
Publication Grants
The Franco Institute offers three types of grants to assist with the publication of peer-reviewed scholarly monographs. Grants are available to defray publication costs, subsidize the acquisition of images and permissions, and support professional indexing. In all cases:
The Franco Institute's goal is to substantially defray, rather than eliminate, publication costs. Cost-shares are expected from R&PD accounts, external grants, etc.Support is awarded on a competitive basis and is not guaranteed. The quality and reputation of the press, the faculty member’s professional standing in the field, and the quality of the scholarly contribution will be considered.
Indexing Grants
Indexing Grants are awarded to defray indexing costs associated with hiring a professional indexer.
If awarded, the faculty member must acknowledge financial support in the acknowledgment of the book and provide the Franco Institute with a hard copy of the book once published.
The Franco Institute will provide up to $1,500 to cover indexing costs for faculty book projects.

Eligibility

Awards are limited to the first edition of any book.Researchers must apply for their own grants.Indexing GrantsApplications for Indexing Grants are submitted electronically and are only considered after a contract is offered by the publisher. Applications must be accompanied by an estimate or invoice provided by the indexer or publisher. These costs should be explicitly tied to word or page counts.Indexing Grants are limited to $1,500.These funds must be used to hire a professional indexer.Limit: one indexing grant per book and academic year.

Ineligibility

Advising, professional, and emeritus faculty are not eligible.Publication grants are not provided for re-prints, subsequent editions, or translations.Funding will not be awarded for anthologies, edited volumes, or open access fees.Applications submitted on behalf of a faculty member by a student, staff member, or outside entity will not be reviewed.
