Franco Institute Fellowships & Grants The Franco Institute offers several grant programs that support faculty research and creative work. Publication Grants The Franco Institute offers three types of grants to assist with the publication of peer-reviewed scholarly monographs. Grants are available to defray publication costs, subsidize the acquisition of images and permissions, and support professional indexing. In all cases: The Franco Institute's goal is to substantially defray, rather than eliminate, publication costs. Cost-shares are expected from R&PD accounts, external grants, etc.Support is awarded on a competitive basis and is not guaranteed. The quality and reputation of the press, the faculty member’s professional standing in the field, and the quality of the scholarly contribution will be considered. Imaging Grants Image Grants are funds awarded to defray the costs associated with a book’s illustration program. Applications for an Image Grant are submitted electronically and are considered after a contracted book’s illustration program is determined.At the time of application, the faculty member must provide a list of images to be acquired and their associated costs.If awarded, the faculty member must acknowledge financial support in the acknowledgment of the book and provide the Franco Institute with a hard copy of the book once published.Please provide a list of images to be acquired and their associated costs.

In extraordinary cases where the cumulative image costs exceed this limit, faculty members may discuss an exception with the Institute Director before submitting an application.

Ineligibility

Advising, professional, and emeritus faculty are not eligible.Publication grants are not provided for re-prints, subsequent editions, or translations.Funding will not be awarded for anthologies, edited volumes, or open access fees.Applications submitted on behalf of a faculty member by a student, staff member, or outside entity will not be reviewed.Imaging GrantsThe Franco Institute funding may not be used to pay image researchers or research assistants.Image grants are not intended to defray the cost of cover/overleaf art or images, nor to commission the creation of new artworks.
