Publication Grants The Franco Institute offers three types of grants to assist with the publication of peer-reviewed scholarly monographs. Grants are available to defray publication costs, subsidize the acquisition of images and permissions, and support professional indexing. In all cases: The Franco Institute's goal is to substantially defray, rather than eliminate, publication costs. Cost-shares are expected from R&PD accounts, external grants, etc.Support is awarded on a competitive basis and is not guaranteed. The quality and reputation of the press, the faculty member’s professional standing in the field, and the quality of the scholarly contribution will be considered. Publication Subventions Publication Subventions are funds that are directly given to publishers to offset the costs of book production and/or to lower the list price of books to increase dissemination of faculty work. Applications for Publication Subventions are submitted electronically and are only considered after a contract is offered by the publisher. The publisher will be required to complete a subvention worksheet that documents the anticipated production costs, print runs, and revenues.The Franco Institute will negotiate a fair subvention with the publisher. While needs vary, the Franco Institute’s subvention awards are typically less than $3,000. In more extreme cases, the Franco Institute may not be able to meet the full subvention request.If awarded, the publisher must agree, in writing, that the funds will be returned to the Franco Institute if the book is not published for any reason. If awarded, the faculty member must acknowledge publication subvention support in the acknowledgment of the book and provide the Franco Institute with a hard copy of the book once published.Eligibility

Similarly, the Institute will consider a subvention to support a scholarly or artistic sound or video recording upon request by the producer. You must have a contract from the publisher before the Franco Institute will negotiate with them.Ineligibility
