Four Freedoms Awards

Program Type: Annual recognition awards honoring civil society leaders

Geographic Scope: United States and International (awards presented alternately by Roosevelt Institute in US and Roosevelt Stichting in Netherlands)

Focus Areas:
The awards are modeled after FDR's historic 1941 speech to Congress and recognize leaders across five categories:

  • Freedom of Speech and Expression

  • Freedom of Worship

  • Freedom from Want

  • Freedom from Fear

  • Freedom Medal (general recognition for significant contributions)
  • Description:
    The Four Freedoms Awards recognize and honor individuals who exemplify the vision articulated by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in his 1941 "Four Freedoms" address. The awards celebrate contributions of civil society leaders who embody core democratic values and freedoms. The ceremony takes place annually and highlights the importance of democratic values in contemporary political landscape.
