Foundation Grant Funding Program

Overview: The TRHS Foundation offers an annual grant program funded by proceeds from the R Party and Rider Cup events. Throughout the year, Roosevelt High School staff can submit grant requests for various educational and enrichment initiatives.

Geographic Scope: Theodore Roosevelt High School and its feeder schools (Callanan, Edmunds, Greenwood, Hanawalt, Hubbell, King, Merrill, and Windsor in Des Moines, Iowa)

Eligibility: Roosevelt High School staff and administration; feeder school principals and staff

Focus Areas:

  • Counseling and student support programs

  • Food and nutrition programs

  • Student enrichment activities

  • Professional development for teachers

  • Library improvements

  • Performing arts and fine arts programs

  • Advanced Placement examination fees

  • Classroom technology and equipment

  • Equipment for school events and activities

  • Feeder school support programs
  • Recent Grant Examples (2023-24):

  • Counseling Department Senior Decision Day festivities

  • Raised edible garden beds for Food & Nutrition program

  • Senior Party after graduation

  • Financial literacy programming

  • Wireless speakers for Activities Department

  • $22,000 acoustic shells for performing arts department

  • Funding for vocal music department trip to Carnegie Hall
  • Feeder School Grants:

  • Annual allocation of 15% of R Party earnings to elementary and middle schools

  • 2024 Distribution: $9,500 across 8 feeder schools

  • Focus areas include reading fluency programs, after-school art clubs, recess equipment, SEL literature, and student enrichment clubs (STEM, coding, art, team sports)

    How to Apply

    Grant Application Process

    1. Submission: Roosevelt staff submit grant requests throughout the year
    2. Review: Foundation board members assess opportunities and allocate resources
    3. Approval: Board determines funding based on alignment with foundation priorities and available funds

    Special Consideration: Individual class reunion groups can also coordinate collective group gifts for designated school projects. Interested reunion coordinators should contact the foundation to discuss potential projects and coordinate funding.
