About Us The Community Foundation brings people together to work towards a healthy, thriving, sustainable Eastern Connecticut. We put philanthropy into action to address the needs, rights and interests of our region, while fulfilling the passions of our donors. About Our Scholarships Since 1983, the Community Foundation has awarded over $11.9 million in scholarships from 136 funds established by generous individuals, families, businesses and nonprofits to help area students pursue an education and establish rewarding careers. Fletcher Family Scholarship Established by Dr. Bettye R. Fletcher in 1996. For graduating high school seniors from East Lyme, Groton, Ledyard, Lyme, Montville, New London, North Stonington, Old Lyme, Salem, Stonington and Waterford with strong academic standing to pursue any field of study. Financial need is considered.
