Field of Interest Funds- Copper Shores Community Wellness and Recreation Fund Grant

The Copper Shores Community Wellness and Recreation Fund aims to enhance physical activity and nutrition through financial support for projects that create or improve accessible outdoor recreational resources in Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw, and Ontonagon counties. This year, priority is given to initiatives that address barriers to access for individuals with physical or cognitive challenges. Eligible applicants include nonprofits, schools, and community organizations, with funding up to $10,000 per project.

Field of Interest Funds- Copper Shores Community Wellness and Recreation Fund
The primary purpose of this field of interest fund is to provide financial assistance and grant awards in support of focused initiatives, programs, or projects, that influence or support individual physical activity and healthy nutrition; supports the expansion, creation, or sustainment of outdoor recreational resources in Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw and Ontonagon counties; and supports greater access and choice for the community to utilize these resources as part of their individual and collective health pursuits and enjoyment.
This year, the fund seeks applications that support and enhance access to outdoor recreational resources that encourage and support individual physical activity and equitable inclusion in such activities for people who may have a physical/cognitive barrier (in one form or another) that otherwise would restrict or impair their access to such resources. This year’s funding is prioritized for projects that incorporate and/or improve the use of universal design upon existing recreational resources and/or create new universally accessible points of access to recreational resources for all our region's citizens and visitors.
Project examples may include ADA enhancements to existing facilities, barrier-free access points to recreation assets, or other inclusions that help mobilize established recreation plans while considering people of all capabilities.
Funding Range:
Up to $10,000 per project. Proposals should include a clear budget that aligns with the project’s goals and scope. Funding may vary based on category alignment and available resources.
