Featured Grants Program

Overview: Together Women Rise funds grants and partnerships that support global gender equality by providing direct services to grassroots organizations empowering women and girls in low-income communities in the Global South.

Geographic Scope: Global South including countries in Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, Asia, the Pacific, and the Middle East. Does NOT fund projects in the U.S. or countries sanctioned by the U.S.

  • Program Details:

  • At least 12 Featured Grants awarded per calendar year

  • Grant term: 24 months (2 years)

  • Award amount: $35,000 to $50,000 paid over two years

  • One organization may receive no more than one Featured Grant per four-year period

  • Integrated approaches addressing multiple interconnected challenges are prioritized

  • Monthly featured grantees receive extensive learning materials and promotion through nationwide chapters, website, newsletters, webinars, and social media
  • Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a US 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization or have a US 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor with verifiable relationship of at least 12 months

  • Minimum $100,000 operating expenses annually for most recent fiscal year

  • Minimum 3 years on-the-ground operations in low-income communities in the Global South

  • Women must make up the majority of board and staff leadership at time of application

  • Must provide data on direct impact of programs

  • Must demonstrate fiscal responsibility and sustainable practices

  • Must have website in English (unless using fiscal sponsor)

  • Must submit all application information in English

  • Has not received a Together Women Rise grant within past 4 years

  • If previously received Rise grant, must have satisfied all reporting requirements

  • Must adhere to Together Women Rise's Religion Policy and Sexual and Reproductive Health Policy
  • What Together Women Rise Will NOT Support:

  • Debt reduction

  • Grants to individuals

  • Endowments

  • Lobbying or political activities/parties

  • Election campaigns

  • Government entities

  • Building funds or campaigns

  • Organizations engaging in exclusionary practices based on religion or political affiliation

  • Organizations attempting to convert beneficiaries to particular religious faith or political party/belief
  • Capacity Building Grants:

  • Only organizations with operating budgets between $100,000 and $1 million may apply

  • How to Apply

    Application Process

    Together Women Rise has streamlined the application process to be more open and accessible. The process has three steps:

    #### Step #1: Eligibility Questionnaire
    1. Complete brief online questionnaire to determine eligibility
    2. Takes only a few minutes
    3. Receive immediate notification of eligibility status

    #### Step #2: Organization Profile
    1. If eligible after questionnaire, receive instructions for completing organization profile
    2. Profile completed via secure, confidential online application site
    3. Upon completion, invited to submit full application

    #### Step #3: Full Application
    If invited to complete full application, you will be asked to provide:

    Required Documentation:

  • Copy of organization's IRS 501(c)(3) Determination Letter (or that of fiscal sponsor)

  • Copy of current fiscal year operating budget

  • Form 990 or Form 990 EZ for the two most recent consecutive years (or that of fiscal sponsor)

  • - If submitting Form 990 Z, must complete supplemental questionnaire
    - Do NOT accept 990-Ns or 990-PFs
  • If using fiscal sponsor: certification/agreement between organization and fiscal sponsor
  • Additional Requirement:

  • Applicants may be required to participate in an online site visit with Rise staff and Grants and Partnership Committee members prior to final selection

  • Site visit invitation is NOT a guarantee or indication of funding
  • #### If Approved for Funding
    Grant recipients must:
    1. Sign funding agreement before any announcement can be made
    2. Payment schedule: 60% when agreement signed; 30% upon interim report; 10% upon final report
    3. Provide deliverables for member learning program:
    - Five high-resolution photographs
    - Video recording (4-5 minutes) about organization and funded project
    - 1-3 impact stories over the two-year period
    - Templates and instructions provided after award
    4. Participate in check-ins: 1-2 check-ins with Rise staff during two-year period
    5. Participate in monthly national webinar during designated featured month to share information with Rise members
    6. Submit reports:
    - Interim report at one-year mark
    - Final report upon project completion
